Once the installation has been completed, proceed to power up the tub as normal and confirm if the new topside is lighting up and working properly. Remove the glued sticker from the back of the overlay and proceed to place it on the new topside making sure you properly align and center the overlay with the screen as much as possible.ĩ. Once the topside is secured in place, last step would be to attach the corresponding topside overlay. Before placing down the new topside on the acrylic surface, make sure that the 4 indicator lights on the topside are facing down as shown below, center it and gently press down to secure it on place.Ĩ. To do so, clean any debris that may be left from the old topside and remove the sticker at the bottom of the new topside. Once the topside has been properly connected to the Control System, next step would be to secure it to the acrylic surface. If you are unsure about where the topside should be connected, you may refer to the wiring diagram printed on the back of the Control System's cover.ħ. To install the replacement topside, feed the wire through the opening on the acrylic and run the wire all the way down until the Control System to connect it on the same spot where the original topside was connected. Using a knife or scissors, cut the zip tie to fully release the wire and pull the topside off.Ħ. To do so, you may need to remove some of the foam insulation that cover such pipes until you reach the zip tie. Once the topside has been released from the Acrylic surface, you would need to find the zip tie that keeps the wire attached to the plumbing in the tub. Apply a little force all around the topside to get it separated from the acrylic surface.ĥ. Once the wire has been released from the Control System, uses a flat screwdriver and gently place it between the topside and the acrylic. Usually there will be a green label attached to this cable.Ĥ. Remove the cover of the control system to reveal the wiring and going down from the topside, follow the cable that connects the topside to the Control System to gently pull it out. ** The location of the Control System may vary depending on the model of hot tub, but the Topside and Control System will always be on the same side of the tub.ģ. Remove the Cabinet Panel directly below the topside and the one to the left side to reveal the wiring that connects the topside to the Control System**. If you write objective or constraint functions that assume feasibility, these functions can error or give unexpected results.įor example, if you take a square root or logarithm of x, and x 2 Intermediate iterations can lead to points that are infeasible (do not satisfy constraints). You can sometimes write constraints in several ways. For more information, see Linear Inequality Constraints and Nonlinear Constraints. x ≥ b is equivalent to the constraint –A.For example, a constraint of the form c i( x) ≥ 0 is equivalent to the constraint –c i( x) ≤ 0. Express greater-than constraints as less-than constraints by multiplying them by –1. Optimization Toolbox functions assume that inequality constraints are of the form c i( x) ≤ 0 or A x ≤ b. Both c and ceq are scalars or vectors representing several constraints. Nonlinear Constraints - c( x) ≤ 0 and ceq( x) = 0. Equality constraints have the same form as inequality constraints. This set the stage for the enduring presence of Spanish vocabulary in South Florida, as well as the emergence of what some people refer to as “ Spanglish.” When the first large group of Cubans came to Miami in the wake of the revolution, they did precisely this, in two ways.įirst, people alternated between Spanish and English, sometimes within the same sentence or clause. Together, they navigate the sociolinguistic landscape of South Florida in complex ways, knowing when and with whom to use which language – and when it’s OK to mix them. Some are more proficient in Spanish, and others are more skilled English speakers. Lynn Pelham/Getty ImagesĪmong this mix are bilinguals. Coast Guard to take them to Florida in 1962. But the point is that there is a lot of Spanish – and a lot of English – being spoken in Miami.Ĭuban refugees on the island of Cay Sal wait for the U.S. Of course, identifying as Latina/o is not synonymous with speaking Spanish, and language loss has occurred among second- and third-generation Cuban Americans. In 2010, more than 65% of the population of Miami-Dade County identified as Hispanic or Latina/o, and in the large municipalities of Doral and Hialeah, the figure is 80% and 95%, respectively. Today, the vast majority of the population is bilingual. In the years following the revolution, hundreds of thousands of Cubans left the island nation for South Florida, setting the stage for what would become one of the most important linguistic convergences in all of the Americas. Spanish meets English in Miamiįast forward to today, where a similar form of language contact involving Spanish and English has been going on in Miami since the end of the Cuban Revolution in 1959. Words that today seem basic, even fundamental, to English vocabulary were, just 800 years ago, borrowed from French: prince, government, administer, liberty, court, prayer, judge, justice, literature, music, poetry, to name just a few. Heritage Images/Hulton Fine Art Collection via Getty ImagesĮnglish never really caught on with the aristocracy, but since servants and the middle classes needed to communicate with aristocrats – and with people of different classes intermarrying – French words trickled down the class hierarchy and into the language.ĭuring this period, more than 10,000 loanwords from French entered the English language, mostly in domains where the aristocracy held sway: the arts, military, medicine, law and religion. Soon thereafter, a French-speaking ruling class replaced the English-speaking aristocracy, and for roughly 200 years, the elites of England – including the kings – did their business in French.Īn 18th-century illustration of the Battle of Hastings, which initiated the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. In 1066, the Norman French, led by William the Conqueror, invaded England in an event now known as “ the Norman Conquest.” One bilingual confluence famously changed the trajectory of the English language. When the contact takes place over an extended period of time – decades, generations or longer – the structures of the languages in question may begin to influence one another, and the speakers can begin to share each other’s vocabulary. This can happen when certain events – war, colonialism, political exile, immigration and climate change – put speakers of different language groups into contact with one another. They’re all over English vocabulary: “ pajamas” from Hindi “ gazelle” from Arabic, via French and “ tsunami” from Japanese.īorrowed words usually come from the minds and mouths of bilingual speakers who end up moving between different cultures and places. But borrowed words are far more pervasive than you might think. You’re probably aware that a limited number of words – usually foods, such as “sriracha” or “croissant” – are borrowed from other languages. Whether you’re an English speaker living in Miami or elsewhere, chances are you don’t know where the words you know and use come from. This language variety came about through sustained contact between Spanish and English speakers, particularly when speakers translated directly from Spanish. In Miami, however, they’ve become part of the local parlance.Īccording to my recently published research, these expressions – along with a host of others – form part of a new dialect taking shape in South Florida. These phrases might sound off to the ears of most English-speaking Americans. “He made a party to celebrate his son’s birthday.” “We got down from the car and went inside.” Travel to Miami, and you might hear people say 'get down from the car' instead of 'get out of the car.' Miami Herald/Getty Images You can absolutely train both the sumo and conventional deadlift in the same training block. Should I do both sumo and conventional deadlift? With that said, strengthening your lower back progressively over time is also a great idea within strength training, so the conventional deadlift may have benefits in that regard if programmed properly and performed with good technique. Most people also find it easier to maintain a flat back in a sumo deadlift. Sumo deadlifts are easier for your lower back because the torso angle and resultant sheer forces are reduced. Are sumo deadlifts safer than conventional? This means that when you’re setting up at the bottom position, you should feel tension throughout your hip musculature as well as in your legs. The sumo deadlift is both a hip hinge exercise and a knee hinge exercise. Is the sumo deadlift a hip hinge exercise? Sumo deadlifts place an additional emphasis on your glutes and quads, which can carry over to improvements both off the floor and at lockout in the conventional deadlift.Īs a coach, I like to use variations of lifts to improve the main lift, so if a lifter predominantly deadlifts with a regular stance, then earlier in their training blocks I will programme things like sumo deadlifts 20-50% of the time. As evidence for this, world record deadlifts across multiple weight classes have been set using both styles of deadlifts. Plus, most coaches suggest that it really just comes down to how you’re built and where your individual strengths lay. Whilst there is some truth to this, the sumo deadlift can also be more difficult as it often requires more practice, better timing and better inner thigh mobility. Some people argue that the sumo deadlift is easier as the bar travels a smaller range of motion, and that the conventional deadlift is harder because it’s more difficult to keep the back flat and more difficult to extend the hips. Is sumo deadlift easier than conventional? The best lift for you mainly comes down to which one feels more mechanically ‘natural’ for your build. Sumo deadlifts use a wider stance, and tend to use a bit more quads and glutes, whereas regular (conventional) deadlifts tend to use a bit more hamstrings and lower back. Neither lift is inherently better than the other. Frequently asked questions What is better sumo deadlifts vs regular? No doubt this is why Skype, the "masters of marketing", chose to partner with Linksys and offer a coupon code with every Linksys CIT200 sold. This lets users test SkypeOut, get addicted, and then pay for SkypeOut minutes later on. Just didn't want to be bothered to give their credit card or Paypal information to Skype in order to purchase SkypeOut minutes. I should also mention that the CIT200 sports a belt clip and a 2.5mm headset jack. The CIT200 recharges via a stand-up cradle and sports 120 hrs standby and 10 hrs of talk time using standard rechargeable AA batteries. Also, the base station has a single button which if you press will page the CIT200 handsets - perfect for when the phone slips down into the sofa and you can't seem to find it anywhere. Each handset can be assigned a unique extension thus enabling handset-to-handset dialing. The CIT200 actually supports multiple handsets, up to a maximum of four and you simply use one base station to communicate with all 4 phones. Then using the arrows on the phone you simply highlight the Skype contact and dial. One of the coolest features is that you can scroll through your Skype contacts using the Linksys CIT200's color display and you can see their current Skype presence (online, offline, etc.). Linksys gave me an exclusive first look at the Linksys CIT200 and I have to say the Linksys CIT200 is probably one of the coolest if not the coolest product that works in conjunction with Skype. This increased productivity (and fewer worker’s compensation claims) you face with a higher-end slicer generally makes up for the difference in cost fairly quickly. Heavier-duty slicers typically also include more usability and safety features, designed to keep you and your staff safe and injury-free. By buying an inexpensive, entry-level slicer, you may feel like you are saving money now, but the repair bills (not to mention frustration) that’s to come probably aren’t worth it for most businesses. However, most of these inexpensive slicers will quickly burn out with regular use, or when an overzealous prep cook tries to push the machine beyond its technical limitations, as with particularly large chunks of frozen meat, or with repeated use for cheese, which tends to work a machine pretty hard. Whether you’re maximizing your inventory purchasing power by buying whole deli hams and slicing them yourself, working through five pound blocks of swiss cheese, shaving paper-thin ribbons off a frozen ribeye steak, or slicing vegetables into paper thin, translucent rounds, a used commercial meat slicer makes a smart investment that will pay for itself in just a few months.īut choosing the model that’s right for you can be tricky with dozens and dozens of different makes and models of commercial slicer available, deciding which one has the features you need at the price you can afford can prove challenging.īudget constraints may make an “entry-level” meat slicer seem like a cost effective way to get into the slicing game, without blowing your equipment budget all at once.
